  • Total Fiji - 837,271
  • iTaukei - 475,739
  • Indo Fijians - 313,798
  • Others - 47,734

 International Merchandise Trade Statistics - October 2017

Provisional data for October 2017 was :

  • total imports $465.4 million
  • total exports $210.4 million

Compared to October 2016, total imports and total exports increased by $74.1 million (18.9%) and by $62.4 million (42.2%) respectively.

The October 2017 trade deficit amounted to $255.0 million compared to $196.8 million a month earlier (September).

Provisional Visitor Arrivals -  2017

Fiji’s annual Visitor Arrival number reached a new high of 842,884 in 2017. This was 6.4% more than the previous record of 792,320 which was set in 2016

The July visitor arrival number of 90,108 was the highest in 2017, followed by the months of August and October with arrival figures of 82,316 and 78,164 respectively.

The peak arrival months by country and number were as follows;

1) Australia – December with 36,786 visitors
2) New Zealand – July with 26,448 visitors
3) United States of America – July with 9,525 visitors
4) China – January with 5,908 visitors
5) United Kingdom – July with 1,961 visitors

Consumer Price Index - December 2017

The All Items CPI for the month of December registered an increase of 0.3 percent over November 2017 [116.5] and stands at 116.9.

Details of price changes between November and December 2017 by expenditure class are as follows:

  • FOOD AND NON ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: +0.8%
  • ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, TOBACCO AND NARCOTICS:+1.1%
  • HOUSING, WATER, ELECTRICITY, GAS AND OTHER FUELS: 0.0%
  • TRANSPORT:-0.1%

Construction Survey - March 2017

Total estimated value of work put-in-place was $129.9 million for the March quarter of 2017.

  • New building and capital repairs: 51.6 %
  • Current Repairs and Maintenance: 6.5 %
  • Civil Engineering Works: 41.9 %
