Provisional All Group Index for Quarter 4, 2007 stood at 143.4 and for 2007 stood at 130.0.

Overseas Merchandise Trade Statistics - February 2008

Provisional data for February 2008 was :

  • total imports FJD271.2 million
  • domestic exports FJD55.2 million
  • total exports FJD82.9 million.
The trade deficit for February 2008 amounted to FJD188.3 million.

Building Material Price Index, Quarter 1 2008

The Building Material Price Index for Quarter 1, 2008 registered an increase of 0.7 percent over Quarter 4, 2007 (183.6) and stands at 184.9.

The total estimated value of work put-in-place during quarter 4 was $64.8 million.

Consumer Price Index, March 2008

The All Item Consumer Price Index [CPI] for the month of March, 2008 registered an increase of 0.3 percent over February 2008 [156.7] and now stands at 157.2.

The average annual rate of inflation for the twelve months to March 2008 [i.e. comparing the average CPI for the 12 months to March 2008 with the average for the 12 months to March 2007] stands at 5.8 percent while the month – on-comparable - month inflation rate [compared with March 2007] stands at 7.5 percent.

Aircraft Statistics - Quarter 4 and Annual, 2007

The total number of passengers carried by local airlines in quarter 4, 2007 was 156,770 in the 567,123 thousand kilometers performed.

The total number of passengers carried in quarter 4 2007 was 45,451 in the 6,706 thousand kilometers performed.

Building Statistics - Quarter 4 & Annual 2007

The total number of Building Permits issued in Quarter 4 2007 was 292 with a value of $54.0 million.

Hotels and Tourist Accommodation Statistics - Quarter 2, 2007[p]
  • An increase of 15.8% was recorded for Rooms Available and units in Licensed Hotels, Resorts and Lodging Houses for 2nd Quarter, 2007 when compared to the same period in 2006.

  • Total Room Nights sold was 354,993 for second quarter representing a decrease of 0.8%. Occupancy rate was recorded at 48.1%, a fall of 8.0 percentage points when compared to Quarter 2, 2006.

    Provisional Results - 2007 Population and Housing Census

    A total of 827,900 residents were enumerated in the 2007 Population Census, an increase of 52,823 over the 1996 count. The ethnic breakdown are as follows:

    • Fijians 473,983
    • Indians 311,591
    • Others 42,326

    CENSUS 2007 - The Government Statistician, Mr Timoci Bainimarama has been appointed as the Census Commissioner from 15 February 2007 for the 2007 Census of Population.

    HIES AND EUS REPORTS - The Fiji Islands Bureau of Statistics has launched two surveys reports - 2002-2003 Household Income and Expenditure Survey and 2004-2005 Employment and Unemployment Survey on June 6 2007.

    GENDER ISSUES IN EMPLOYMENT UNDEREMPLOYMENT AND INCOMES IN FIJI
    Dr Wadan Narsey has launched his report on the 11 December 2007, which was funded by the AusAid. He used the Fiji Islands Bureau of Statistics 2004-05 Employment and Unemployment Survey data for this important gender analysis.

    VISITOR STATISTICS - There is serious delay in obtaining data from the Immigration System to compile Visitors and Residents Statistics. As a consequence Visitor Arrival Statistics has been delayed, but attempts are made to have the backlog cleared.

    CENSUS OF BUSINESS ENTERPRISES - FIBOS wishes to advise those business communities who have access to Internet that the forms can be accessed here.
