Aircraft Statistics, Quarter 2 2009

Aircraft statistics covers regular domestic and international operations by the local airlines. Statistics on the operations of local airlines are obtained from the monthly returns submitted by them.

Regular Operation of Local Airlines

  • International Flights
  • The total number of passengers carried by local airlines in quarter 2, 2009 was 132,467 in the 586,770 thousand kilometers performed. Compared to the previous quarter when the total number of passengers carried was 147,251 in the 622,675 thousand kilometers performed, this is a decrease of 10.0 per cent in the number of passengers carried and 5.8 per cent in the kilometers performed. Compared to the previous corresponding quarter when the number of passengers carried was 142,101 in the 550,180 thousand kilometers performed, this is a decrease of 6.8 per cent in the number of passengers carried but an increase of 6.7 per cent in the kilometers performed.

    The seats kilometers available for quarter 2 were 1,895,332 thousand kilometers while it was 1,925,041 thousand kilometers in the previous quarter and 1,337,107 thousand kilometers available in the previous corresponding quarter.

    The passenger load factor has decreased from 32.0 per cent in the previous quarter to 31.0 per cent in this quarter.

  • Domestic Flights

  • The total number of passengers carried in quarter 2 2009 was 39,880 in the 7,964 thousand kilometers performed. Compared to the previous quarter when the total number of passengers carried was 41,116 in the 6,012 thousand kilometers performed, this a decrease of 3.0 per cent in the number of passengers carried but an increase of 32.5 per cent in the kilometers performed. Compared to the previous corresponding quarter when the number of passengers carried was 44,305 in the 6,397 thousand kilometers performed, this is a decrease of 10.0 per cent in the number of passengers carried but an increase of 24.5 per cent in the kilometers performed.

    The seats kilometers available for quarter 2 was 18,366 thousand kilometers while it was 13,328 thousand kilometers in the previous quarter and 9,955 thousand kilometers in the previous corresponding quarter. This is an increase of 37.8 per cent from the previous quarter and 84.5 per cent from the previous corresponding quarter.

    The passenger load factor decreased from 45.0 per cent in the previous quarter to 43.0 per cent in this quarter.

    Local Airlines: Revenue Tonne Kilometer Performed

  • International Flights
  • The total revenue tonne kilometer performed in Quarter 2, 2009 was 64,763 thousand tonnes with a 136,920 thousand tonnes kilometers available. Compared to the previous quarter when the total tonne kilometer performed was 69,697 thousand tonnes with a 149,702 thousand tonnes kilometer available, this is a decrease of 7.1 per cent in the total tonne kilometer performed and 8.5 per cent in the tonne kilometer available. Compared to the previous corresponding quarter when the total revenue tonne kilometer performed was 77,268 thousand tonnes with 172,595 thousand tonnes kilometer available, this is a decrease of 16.2 per cent in the total tonne performed and 20.7 per cent in the tonne kilometer available.

    The load factor remained the same for both the quarters at 47.0 per cent.

  • Domestic Flights
  • The total revenue tonne kilometer performed in this quarter was 683 thousand tonnes with a 2,237 thousand tonne kilometers available. Compared to the previous quarter when the total tonne kilometer performed was 679 thousand tonnes with a 2,314 thousand tonne kilometer available, this is an increase of 0.6 per cent in the total tonne kilometer performed but a decrease of 3.3 per cent in the tonnes kilometers available. Compared to the previous corresponding quarter when the total revenue tonne kilometer performed was 689 thousand tonnes with a 1,771 thousand tonne kilometer available, this is a decrease of 0.9 per cent in the total tonne kilometer performed but an increase of 26.3 per cent in the tonne kilometer available.

    The load factor increased from 29.0 per cent in the previous quarter to 31.0 per cent in this quarter.
