Building Material Price Index, Quarter 1 2011

The Building Material Price Index (BMPI) is constructed using retail prices collected for each quarter from selected hardware and building merchants in the Suva and Nausori areas. The structure and the classification of the index remain unchanged. This release reflects the recommendation of the Commerce Commission on the control of prices for Hardware Items.

The All items Building Material Price Index (BMPI) for Quarter 2 2011 stood at 127.8

BMPI for Quarter 2, 2011 registered a decrease of 3.9 percent over Quarter 1, 2011.

Detailed sectional changes over the previous quarter are as follows:

Wood and Related Materials: -3.1%
Lower prices were recorded for rough gauged treated framing grade, dressed treated framing and dressing grade, dressed hardwood framing grade and wide damp proof course.

Cement & Related Materials: -0.8%
Lower prices were recorded for cement, sand, standard concrete block bond beam block and corner block.

Iron & Steel: -1.5%
Lower prices were recorded for roofing iron, ridge cap, girth barge flashing, roofing nail, galvanized louvre frame, lumberlok strip brace, ditto joist hanger and purlin straps.

Plumbingware: -3.1%
Lower prices were recorded for PVC standard gutter, PVC pipes, cistern & seat, stainless steel sink, standard precast concrete, waste pipe, PVC glue and brass tap.

Paint & Glass: -0.5%
Lower prices were recorded for metal and timber primer, undercoat, finishing coat, concrete paint, thinner, cemstik, clear and obscure glass, paint brush, thinner and turpentine.

Floor & Wall Tiles: -0.5%
Lower prices were recorded for vinyl tiles and vinyl tiles adhesive.

Door & Window Frame: -5.0%
Lower prices were recorded for anodized aluminium window and ditto window frame.

Electrical Products: -3.2%
Lower prices were recorded for zelemite board, main switch, power point, tube light and fittings, tube light, light bulb and energy saving bulb.
