Building Statistics covers Building Permits and Completion Certificates issued is compiled
using information supplied by the City, Town Councils and Rural Local Authorities.
Users of Building Statistics should exercise caution in interpreting statistics relating to the
Building Permits and the Completion Certificates issued for specific periods due to the time lag
between the Building Permit issued and the Completion Certificate issued.
Building Permits Issued
The total number of Building Permits issued in Quarter 2 2009 was 295 with a value of $23.9 million. Compared to the previous quarter when
the total number issued was 233 with a value of $24.5 million, this is an increase of 26.6 per cent in the number and a decrease of 2.8 per
cent in the value. Compared to the previous corresponding quarter when the number issued was 284 with a value of $23.4 million, this is a 3.9
per cent increase in the number and 1.7 per cent increase in the value.
Of the total value of Building Permits issued:
31.1 per cent were issued for Private Dwellings, of which, 75.8 per cent were issued for New Private Dwellings and 24.2 per cent were
issued for Additions to Private Dwellings
42.2 per cent were issued for Other Buildings of which 70.6 per cent were issued for New Other Buildings and 29.4 per cent were issued
for Additions to Other Buildings
26.7 per cent were issued for Alterations and Repairs to all types of Buildings and Miscellaneous work
Of the 42.2 per cent value of Building Permits issued for Other Buildings, 59.9 per cent comprised value of permits issued for commercial buildings,
17.6 per cent for education, 9.9 per cent for factories, 8.8 per cent for religious buildings and 3.8 per cent for hotels.
Of the total number of Building Permits issued, 166 or 56.3 per cent with a value of $14.6 million were issued for the Central Division, 108 or
36.6 per cent with a value of $7.0 million were issued for the Western Division and 21 or 7.1 per cent with a value of $2.3 million were issued for
the Northern and Eastern Divisions
Completion Certificates Issued
The total number of Completion Certificates issued in Quarter 2 2009 was 85 with a value of $10.9 million. Compared to the previous quarter when the
total number issued was 95 with a value of $11.8 million, this is a 10.5 per cent decrease in the number and a 7.0 per cent decrease in the value.
Compared to the previous corresponding quarter when the number issued was 73 with a value of $7.8 million, this is an increase of 16.4 per cent in the
number and 40.7 per cent increase in the value.
Of the total value of Completion Certificates issued:
18.9 per cent were issued for Private Dwellings, of which, 74.5 per cent were issued for New Private Dwellings and 25.5 per cent were issued for Additions
to Private Dwellings
48.9 per cent were issued for Other Buildings of which, 87.3 per cent were issued for New Other Buildings and 12.7 per cent were issued for Additions to
Other Buildings
32.2 per cent were issued for Alterations and Repairs to all types of Buildings and Miscellaneous work
Of the 48.9 per cent value of Completion Certificates issued for Other Buildings, 94.7 per cent comprised value of completion certificates issued for commercial
buildings, 5.2 per cent for educational and 0.1 per cent for religious buildings.
Of the total number of Completion Certificates issued, 51 or 60.0 per cent with a value of $8.6 million were issued for the Central Division, 31 or 36.5 per cent
with a value of $2.2 million were issued for the Western Division and 3 or 3.5 per cent with a value of $0.08 million were issued for the Northern and Eastern Divisions.
