Quarterly Construction Survey, Quarter 2 2008

Quarterly Construction Survey covers all private sector enterprises who are engaged in various types of construction work by the private sector as well as general government.

The total estimated value of work put - in - place during quarter 2 2008 was $57.9 million, an increase of $2.9 million or 5.3 per cent from the previous quarter and an increase of $3.5 million or 6.5 per cent from the previous corresponding quarter. Of the total estimated value of $57.9 million, $54.4 million was for work done in the Private sector while $3.5 million was for work done for the General Government.

New Building and Capital Repairs
The total estimated value of work put-in-place for New Building and Capital Repairs during Quarter 2 of 2008 was $45.9 million, an increase of $2.2 million or 5.1 per cent from the previous quarter and an increase of $3.6 million or 8.6 per cent from the previous corresponding quarter. Of the $45.9 million, $5.5 million were for Residential Buildings and $40.4 million were for Non-Residential Buildings. New Building and Capital Repairs accounted for 79.3 per cent of the total estimated value of work put-in-place, of which, 12.1 per cent were for Residential Buildings and 87.9 per cent were for Non - Residential Buildings. Hotels and educational institutions contributed significantly towards Non-Residential Buildings.

Current Repairs and Maintenance
Current Repairs and Maintenance accounted for 11.6 per cent of the total estimated value of work put in place, of which 98.2 per cent were for work done in the Private Sector and 1.8 per cent were for work done for the General Government. Of the total estimated value of $6.7 million, 23.7 per cent were for Residential Buildings and 76.3 per cent were for Non-Residential Buildings

Civil Engineering Works
Civil Engineering Works accounted for 9.1 per cent of the total estimated value of work put-in-place, of which 59.7 per cent were for work done in the Private Sector and 40.3 per cent were for work done for the General Government. Of the total estimated value of $5.3 million, 64.2 per cent were for earthmoving works, 28.8 per cent were for civil engineering works and 7.0 per cent were for other types of work done.
