2002-03 Household Income and Expenditure Survey
The 2002-2003 HIES was planned and conducted by the Household Survey
Unit of the Fiji Islands Bureau of Statistics [FIBOS].
Household surveys are a convenient and perhaps the only means of obtaining
socio-economic information needed for the formulation of Government’s
economic and social plans and policies.
Key objectives of the survey are:
to revise the weights for the Consumer Price Index [CPI]
to update consumption data in National Accounts
to provide data for Poverty Analysis
The HIES also provides other important information. A measure of living
standards in the urban and rural areas on the basis of household consumption
expenditure is an example. Similarly information relating to housing
conditions and availability.
The 2002-2003 HIES Report was analysed by Dr Wadan Narsey and is available
from our library or you may download.
