Fiji’s Constant Price GDP is provisionally estimated at $2,871.0 million for calendar year 2007.

Overseas Merchandise Trade Statistics - May 2008

Provisional data for May 2008 was :

  • total imports FJD301.5 million
  • domestic exports FJD67.3 million
  • total exports FJD102.0 million.
The trade deficit for May 2008 amounted to FJD199.5 million.

Hotels and Tourist Accommodation Statistics - Quarter 4 & Annual 2007[p]
  • Rooms and Units and Beds available for quarter 4 2007 increased by 1.7% and 1.5% respectively when compared to the same quarter in 2006.

    Industrial Production Index, Qtr 1 2008

    Provisional All Group Index for Quarter 1, 2008 stood at 108.3.

    Consumer Price Index, June 2008

    The All Item Consumer Price Index [CPI] for the month of June, 2008 registered an increase of 1.4 percent over May 2008 [157.9] and now stands at 160.1.

    Quarterly Construction - Quarter 1 2008

    The total estimated value of work put-in-place during quarter 4 was $64.8 million.

    Building Statistics - Quarter 1 2008

    The total number of Building Permits issued in Quarter 1 2008 was 311 with a value of $21.7 million.

    International Flights

    The total number of passengers carried by local airlines in quarter 1 2008 was 161,991 in the 643,235 thousand kilometers performed.

    Domestic Flights

    The total number of passengers carried in quarter 1 2008 was 40,516 in the 7,061 thousand kilometers performed.

    CENSUS 2007 - The Government Statistician, Mr Timoci Bainimarama has been appointed as the Census Commissioner from 15 February 2007 for the 2007 Census of Population.

    HIES AND EUS REPORTS - The Fiji Islands Bureau of Statistics has launched two surveys reports - 2002-2003 Household Income and Expenditure Survey and 2004-2005 Employment and Unemployment Survey on June 6 2007.

    GENDER ISSUES IN EMPLOYMENT UNDEREMPLOYMENT AND INCOMES IN FIJI
    Dr Wadan Narsey has launched his report on the 11 December 2007, which was funded by the AusAid. He used the Fiji Islands Bureau of Statistics 2004-05 Employment and Unemployment Survey data for this important gender analysis.

    VISITOR STATISTICS - There is serious delay in obtaining data from the Immigration System to compile Visitors and Residents Statistics. As a consequence Visitor Arrival Statistics has been delayed, but attempts are made to have the backlog cleared.
