QUARTERLY CONSTRUCTION SURVEY - March 2013

An estimated $74.9 million worth of construction work was put in place during the March quarter of 2013. The amount is $4.4 million or 6.3 per cent higher than the December quarter of 2012 and is $6.9 million or 10.2 per cent higher than the March quarter of 2012.

The value of work carried out for the Private Sector was $49.6 million with the remaining $25.3 million for the General Government.

These are findings from the 2013 March Quarter survey covering enterprises engaged in construction work for both the Private Sector and the General Government. Further details follow.

NEW BUILDINGS AND CAPITAL REPAIRS

The value of work put-in-place for New Buildings and Capital Repairs was $31.9 million, an increase of $3.0 million or 10.3 per cent compared to the December quarter of 2012 and also a $3.8 million or 13.7 per cent increase over the March quarter of 2012. The value of work put in place for Non-residential Buildings and Residential Buildings were $26.0 million and $5.9 million respectively. These were mainly for construction work on Commercial Buildings, Shops, Religious and Educational Institutions.

CURRENT REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE

For current repairs and maintenance, 97.5 per cent of the value of work done was for the Private Sector and 2.5 per cent for the General Government. From the total estimated value of work put in place of $10.4 million, 17.9 per cent were for Residential Buildings and 82.1 per cent were for Non-Residential Buildings.

CIVIL ENGINEERING WORKS

For Civil Engineering Works, 28.6 per cent of the value of work done was for the Private Sector and 71.4 per cent for the General Government. From the total estimated value of work put in place of $32.6 million, 30.2 per cent were for earthmoving works, 64.3 per cent were for roads and bridges works and 5.5 per cent were for other types of work.
