CONSTRUCTION SURVEY - March 2015

The Quarterly Construction Survey covers work carried out by registered Private Building and Civil Works Contractors.

 

An estimated $110.5 million worth of construction work was put in place during the March quarter of 2015. The amount is $4.4 million or 4.2 per cent higher than the December quarter of 2014 and is $8.5 million or 8.4 per cent higher than the March quarter of 2014.

The value of work carried out for the Private Sector was $64.3 million with the remaining $46.2 million for the General Government.

 

These are findings from the 2015 March Quarter survey covering enterprises engaged in construction work for both the Private Sector and the General Government. Further details are provided below.

 

NEW BUILDINGS AND CAPITAL REPAIRS 

The value of work put-in-place for New Buildings and Capital Repairs was $39.9 million, an increase of $3.6 million or 9.8 per cent compared to the December quarter of 2014 and a $0.2 million or 0.5 per cent increase over the March quarter of 2014. The value of work- put- in- place for Non-Residential Buildings and Residential Buildings were $31.0 million and $8.9 million respectively. These were mainly for construction work on Commercial Buildings, Shops, Religious and Educational Institutions.

 

CURRENT REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE 

For Current Repairs and Maintenance, 95.0 per cent of the value of work done was for the Private Sector and 5.0 per cent for the General Government. From the total estimated value of work put-in-place of $11.5 million, 14.9 per cent were for Residential Buildings and 85.1 per cent were for Non-Residential Buildings.  

 

CIVIL ENGINEERING WORKS 

For Civil Engineering Works, 23.3 per cent of the value of work done was for the Private Sector and 76.7 per cent for the General Government. From the total estimated value of work put-in-place of $59.1 million, 25.8 per cent were for earthmoving works, 69.0 per cent were for work on roads and bridges and 5.2 per cent were for other types of work.
