QUARTERLY CONSTRUCTION SURVEY

September Quarter 2012  

An estimated $68.2 million worth of construction work was put in place during the September quarter of 2012. The amount is $2.6 million or 3.6 per cent lower than the June 2012 quarter but $4.4 million or 6.8 per cent higher than the September 2011 quarter.

Value of work put in place

The value of work carried out for the Private Sector was $46.6 million with the remaining $21.6 million for the General Government.

These are findings from the 2012 September Quarter survey covering enterprises engaged in construction work for both the Private Sector and General Government. Further details follow

NEW BUILDINGS AND CAPITAL REPAIRS

The value of work put-in-place for New Buildings and Capital Repairs was $28.1million, an increase of $0.5 million or 1.9 per cent compared to the June quarter of 2012 and also a $0.02 million or 0.1 per cent decrease over the September quarter of 2011. The value of work put in place for Non-residential Buildings and Residential Buildings were $23.2 million and $4.9 million respectively. These were mainly for construction work on Commercial Buildings, Shops, Religious and Educational Institutions.

 

CURRENT REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE

For current repairs and maintenance, 96.7 per cent of the value of work done was for the Private Sector and 3.3 per cent for the General Government. Of the total estimated value of work put in place of $9.7 million, 18.5 per cent were for Residential Buildings and 81.5 per cent were for Non-Residential Buildings.

CIVIL ENGINEERING WORKS

For Civil Engineering Works, 33.4 per cent of the value of work done was for the Private Sector and 66.6 per cent for General Government. Of the total estimated value of work put in place of $30.4 million, 28.7 per cent were for earthmoving works, 57.0 per cent were for roads and bridges works and 14.3 per cent were for other types of work.
