Findings from the December Quarter 2012 Survey of Wholesale and Retail Trade, Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motor Cycles estimates sales and services income at $811.3 million which is an increase of 4.5 per cent over the September Quarter 2012 and 4.8 per cent more than the same Quarter in 2011. 

The estimated Value of Stocks at the end of the December Quarter 2012 was $378.5 million, an increase of 2.2 per cent over the September Quarter 2012 and 9.7 per cent more than the same Quarter in 2011.

The 2012 annual sales and services income is estimated to be $3,085.4 million, an increase of 3.3 percent compared to 2011.

The quarterly survey of Wholesale and Retail Trade and Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motor Cycles gathers information on the industry sales and stocks which provides a short term economic indicator and it covers a sample of establishments operating in the Wholesale and Retail sector.

Caution:        

Users are to note the limitations of the survey findings for instance, in a situation where a business is involved in multiple activities, for e.g. both wholesale and retail trade; it is the predominant activity which determines one’s classification.
