PRODUCER PRICE INDEX - December & Annual 2014

The Producer Price Index (PPI) for Goods is a family of indexes that measures the average change over time in the prices received by domestic producers of goods, that is, the prices of goods as and when they leave the factory or the producers’ premises. Information contained in this release are used to estimate Gross Domestic Product at Constant Prices.

The Fiji Standard Industrial Classification (FSIC) 2010 has been used for classifying industries and commodities.

The PPI for Goods survey covers the following industries; Mining & Quarrying, Manufacturing, Electricity and Water.

December Quarter Highlights

The All Items PPI for December quarter of 2014 increased by 1.3 percentage points when compared to the same period in 2013.

When compared to the September quarter of 2014, the All Items PPI increased by 0.3 per cent.

Contributing to this increase were higher prices recorded for repair and installation of machinery and equipment, paper & paper products and printing & reproduction of recorded media, wood and products of wood and cork except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials, wearing apparel & footwear & leather products and food products.

 

 

 

Annual 2014 Highlights
The annual PPI for 2014 stands at 113.0, an increase of 1.9 per cent over the annual 2013 PPI of 110.9. Following are detailed highlights of the industries covered:

Mining & Quarrying
The annual 2014 PPI for Mining & Quarrying stood at 99.0, a decline of 7.2 per cent over the annual 2013 PPI of 106.6. The decline was driven by changes in the cost of production, fluctuations in the world market price and the USD exchange rate.

 

 

 

 

 

ppiDec14cManufacturing                                                                                                  The annual 2014 PPI for Manufacturing stood at 116.6, an increase of 3.0 per cent over the annual 2013 PPI of 113.2. The increase in the manufacturing index was due to increases registered in the producer prices of furniture, beverages and tobacco products, food products, wood and of products of wood and cork except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials, other non-metallic mineral products, paper & paper products and printing & reproduction of recorded media, wearing apparel & footwear & leather products, rubber and plastic products, repair and installation of machinery and equipment and basic metals and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment.

Electricity & Water
The annual 2014 PPI for Electricity & Water stood at 99.9, which is unchanged over the annual 2013 PPI of 99.9.
