FIJI’S EARNINGS FROM TOURISM December Quarter and Annual, 2012

 December Quarter 2012

Earn2012Fiji’s earnings from tourism for the December quarter 2012 is provisionally estimated at $338.2 million.  This represents a $9.5 million or 2.9 per cent increase over the December quarter 2011 earnings of $328.7 million. The figures are graphically presented in Graph 1.

 

 

 

 

 

Australian visitors contributed $187.5 million or 55.4 per cent of the earnings from tourism with $54.0 million or 16.0 per cent attributed to New Zealand visitors.

Graph 2 compares the December quarter earnings from tourism in 2011 and 2012 for the major source markets.
These countries accounted for 82.9 per cent of earnings in the December quarter of 2012, an increase of 0.5 percentage point when compared to a year earlier. The changes in earnings recorded by country were as follows; 

  • Australia increased by $0.5 million (0.3%) to $187.5 million;
  • New Zealand increased by $9.7 million (21.9%) to $54.0 million;
  • USA increased by $1.5 million (6.4%) to $24.8 million;
  • Continental Europe decreased by $2.3 million (14.0%) to $14.1 million.

Fiji’s earnings from tourism for 2012 is provisionally estimated at $1.303 billion. This represents a $16.9 million or 1.3 per cent increase over the 2011 earnings estimate of $1.287 billion. The figures are graphically presented in Graph 3.

 

Australian visitors contributed $702.8 million or 53.9 per cent of the earnings from tourism with $216.6 million or 16.6 per cent attributed to New Zealand visitors.

Graph 4 compares earnings from tourism in 2011 and 2012 for the major source markets. These countries accounted for 82.9 per cent of earnings for 2012, a slight increase of 1.0 percentage point compared to a year earlier. The changes in earnings recorded by country were as follows;

  • Australia increased by $13.6 million (2.0%) to $702.8 million;
  • New Zealand increased by $15.9 million (7.9%) to $216.6 million;
  • USA increased by $3.3 million (3.3%) to $103.1 million;
  • Continental Europe decreased by 5.5 million (8.7%) to 58.0 million.

 

The main components of earnings from tourism for the year 2010 to 2012 are given in Tables 1 and 2.  Apart from the annual data, these tables also contain the quarterly aggregates.
