Earnings from Tourism

Fiji’s earnings from tourism for the December 2011 quarter is provisionally estimated at $271.9 million. This represents a $21.2 million or 8.5 per cent increase over the December quarter 2010 earnings of $250.7 million. The higher earnings reflect the 53,323 or 3.4 per cent increase in Total Visitor Days. tour12

These countries accounted for 80.7 per cent of tourism earnings in the December quarter of 2011, a decrease of 0.5 per cent when compared to a year earlier. The changes in earnings recorded by country were as follows;

  • Australia increased by $16.2 million (12.3%) to $148.4 million;
  • New Zealand increased by $1.2 million (3.4%) to $36.1 million;
  • USA increased by $0.3 million (1.5%) to $20.5 million;
  • Pacific Islands Countries decreased by $1.7 million (10.6%) to $14.3 million.
