Earnings from Tourism

December Quarter 2015

 

Fiji’s earnings from tourism for the December quarter of 2015 is provisionally estimated at $408.9 million. This represents a $40.0 million or 10.8 per cent increase over the December quarter of 2014 earnings of $368.9 million. The quarterly earnings beginning from March 2012 are presented in Graph 1 below.

Australian visitors contributed $229.6 million or 56.2 per cent of the earnings from tourism with $61.8 million or 15.1 per cent attributed to New Zealand visitors.

Graph 2 compares the December quarter earnings in 2014 and 2015 for the major tourism source markets.

These countries accounted for 83.1 per cent of earnings in the December quarter of 2015, an increase of 0.5 percentage point when compared to December quarter of 2014.

 

 

 

 

The major changes in earnings recorded by country were as follows;

  • Australia increased by $21.1 million (10.1%) from $208.5 million to $229.6 million;
  • New Zealand increased by $8.4 million (15.7%) from $53.4 million to $61.8 million;
  • United States of America increased by $4.1 million (15.7%) from $26.1 million to $30.2 million and
  • Continental Europe increased by $1.6 million (9.5%) from $16.8 million to $18.4 million.

Annual 2015

Fiji’s earnings from tourism for 2015 is provisionally estimated at $1,560.2 million. This represents a $155.6 million or 11.1 per cent increase over the 2014 earnings estimate of $1,404.6 million. The figures are graphically presented in Graph 3.

Australian visitors contributed $841.6 million or 53.9 per cent of the earnings from tourism with $247.8 million or 15.9 per cent attributed to New Zealand visitors.

Graph 4 compares earnings in 2014 and 2015 for the major tourism source markets.

These countries accounted for 82.3 per cent of earnings for 2015, a decrease of 0.2 percentage point compared to a year earlier.

 

 

 

 

 

The major changes in earnings recorded by country were as follows;

  • Australia increased by $84.1 million (11.1%) from $757.5 million to $841.6 million;
  • New Zealand increased by $22.9 million (10.2%) from $224.9 million to $247.8 million;
  • United States of America increased by $11.2 million (10.1%) from $110.9 million to $122.1 million and
  • Continental Europe increased by $6.5 million (9.8%) from $66.1 million to $72.6 million.
