Findings from the Quarter 1, 2018 survey of Licensed Hotels, Resorts and Lodging Houses are presented in this release.

Compared to Quarter 1, 2017

  • The number of Rooms Available increased by 5.8% (50,884).
  • The number of Rooms Sold increased by 7.0% (28,564).
  • The Room Occupancy Rate increased by 0.6 percentage points to 46.6%.
  • The number of Beds Available increased by 0.7% (14,821).
  • The number of Beds Sold increased by 3.8% (31,108).
  • The Bed Occupancy Rate increased by 1.2 percentage points to 40.4%.
  • Takings from Accommodation, Sales of Food, Liquor, Telephone and Other Miscellaneous Charges totaled $204.8 million, an increase of 14.2%.
  • Paid Employment in the Hotel Sector increased by 11.9%.

  • The Room Occupancy Rate increased from 46.0% to 46.6% for the same period last year.
  • The Room Occupancy Rate for the last 5 years has been in the range of (40.4%) to (46.6%).

  • Quarter 1, 2018 shows that the Nadi Area recorded the highest Occupancy Rate compared to other Areas.
  • First Quarter data for the Mamanuca Area shows a slight decrease to 46.6% from 49.1% in 2017.

  • Quarter 1, 2018 shows that a large number of visitors from Australia stayed in the Coral Coast, Nadi and Mamanuca Area.
  • Visitors from the United States of America made up the highest percentage of occupants in hotels of the Northern and Other Islands, including Kadavu.
  • The Suva Area had the highest number of visitors from Other countries with the majority from Japan and other Pacific Islands.
