Findings from the Quarter 1, 2015 survey of Licensed Hotels, Resorts and Lodging Houses are presented in this release.

Compared to Quarter 1, 2014

  • The number of Rooms Available increased by 2.7% (24,369).
  • The number of Rooms Sold increased by 5.5% (21,347).
  • The Room Occupancy Rate increased by 1.1 percentage points to 43.9%.
  • Both Beds Available and Beds sold increased by 3.1% and 6.9% respectively.
  • The Bed Occupancy Rate increased by 1.3 percentage points to 38.5%.
  • Takings from Accommodation, Sales of Food, Liquor, Telephone and Other Miscellaneous Charges totaled $170 million, an increase of 6.3%.
  • Paid Employment in the Hotel Sector increased by 9.8%.

  • The Room Occupancy Rate slightly increased to 43.9% from 42.8% for the same period last year.
  • The Room Occupancy Rate for the last 6 years has been in the range of (38.4%) to (43.9%).

  • The Quarter 1, 2015 Room Occupancy Rates in all the Areas slightly increased compared to Quarter 1, 2014.
  • First Quarter Data in 2015 shows that Nadi Area recorded the highest Occupancy Rate compared to other Areas.

Map 2: Key Points

  • The Coral Coast and Nadi Area had the highest number of visitors from Australia in Quarter 1, 2015.
  • A large number of visitors from the United States of America stayed in the Northern Area and Other Islands, in Qtr 1, 2015.
  • The highest number of visitors from Other countries, the majority of which were from Japan and Other Pacific Islands, stayed in Hotels in the Suva area.
