Findings from the Quarter 3, 2017 survey of Licensed Hotels, Resorts and Lodging Houses are presented in this release.

Compared to Quarter 3, 2016

  • The number of Rooms Available increased by 4.4% (39,183).
  • The number of Rooms Sold increased by 5.3% (26,899).
  • The Room Occupancy Rate increased by 0.5 percentage points to 57.4%.
  • The number of Beds Available increased by 0.3%.
  • The number of Beds Sold increased by 5.5%.
  • The Bed Occupancy Rate increased by 2.6 percentage points to 52.2%.
  • Takings from Accommodation, Sales of Food, Liquor, Telephone and Other Miscellaneous Charges totaled $323.1 million, an increase of 17.8%.
  • Paid Employment in the Hotel Sector increased by 11.7%.

  • The Room Occupancy Rate slightly increased to 57.4% from 56.9% in the same period last year.
  • The Room Occupancy Rate for the last 6 years has been in the range of (54.0%) to (62.6%).

  • The Mamanuca Area recorded the highest Occupancy Rate compared to other Areas.
  • The Quarter 3, 2017 Room Occupancy Rate slightly increased in all areas when compared to Quarter 3, 2016 except for Suva Area.

  • A large number of visitors from Australia stayed in the Coral Coast, Nadi and Mamanuca Area.
  • A large number of visitors from the United States of America stayed in the Northern and Other Areas, including Kadavu.
  • Suva Area had the highest number of visitors from Other countries with the majority from Japan and other Pacific Islands.
