Findings from the Quarter 3, 2015 survey of Licensed Hotels, Resorts and Lodging Houses are presented in this release.

Compared to Quarter 3, 2014

  • The number of Rooms Available increased by 1.1% (10,711).
  • The number of Rooms Sold increased by 7.8% (42,021).
  • The Room Occupancy Rate increased by 3.7 percentage points to 60.3%.
  • Beds Available and Beds Sold both increased by 2.4% (54,981) and 6.7% (80,819) respectively.
  • Bed Occupancy Rate increased by 2.2 percentage points to 54.8%.
  • Takings from Accommodation, Sales of Food, Liquor, Telephone and Other Miscellaneous Charges increased by 9.8% to $300.1 million.
  • Paid Employment in the Hotel Sector increased by 8.7% to 13,830.

  • The Room Occupancy Rate slightly increased to 60.3% from 56.6% for the same period in 2014.
  • The Quarter 3 Room Occupancy Rate for the last 6 years has been in the range of (52.4%) to (60.3%).

  • The Coral Coast and Nadi area recorded the highest Occupancy Rate in Quarter 3, 2015.

  • The majority of visitors to the Coral Coast, Nadi and the Mamanuca Area were from Australia.
  • A large number of visitors from the United States of America stayed in the Northern Area and other islands including Kadavu.
  • The majority of visitors staying in hotels around the Suva Area, were from Japan and other Pacific Islands.
