PROVISIONAL VISITOR ARRIVALS - March 2015

Provisional numbers show that visitor arrivals for March 2015 totaled 51,047 an increase of 8.3% compared to a year earlier. 

 

There were increases in the number of visitors from the following countries; the United States of America [930 or 20.3% to 5,511]; Australia [853 or 3.5% to 25,069]; New Zealand [672 or 12.8% to 5,906]; China [505 or 24.7% to 2,553]; South Korea [483 or 131.6% to 850]; Pacific Islands [347 or 11.2% to 3,435]; Other Countries [159 or 44.7% to 515]; the United Kingdom [112 or 6.8%  to 1,771]; Japan [74 or 14.5% to 586] and Rest of Asia [73 or 7.5% to 1,049].

 

However, decreases were recorded in the number of visitors from Continental Europe [down 236 or 8.1% to 2,671] and Canada [down 74 or 6.1% to 1,131].

 

Visitors arriving for holiday purposes accounted for 77.0% of total arrivals, 6.4% came to visit their friends or relatives, 3.9% came for business purposes, while 12.7% visited Fiji for other reasons.

 

Table 1 below presents actual numbers and the 2015 and 2014 comparisons of visitor arrivals for the month of March, January to March and 12 months to March 2015.

Note: Visitor statistics are released monthly using data sourced from the Immigration System.  The number of tables released is currently due to limitations in the new system which came on line in April 2013.

 

Figure 1 below is a graphical comparison of Visitor Arrivals by Country for the years 2014 and 2015.

In the moving twelve monthly numbers ending March 2015, the total number of visitors to Fiji increased by 6.2% compared with the same period in 2014. Visitors from South Korea increased by 48.6%; Rest of Asia [24.3%]; China [24.0%]; the United States of America [16.1%]; New Zealand [15.1%]; Pacific Islands [4.1%]; Continental Europe [3.6%] and Australia [1.8%].

 

Decreases were recorded for visitors from Other Countries [17.8%]; Japan [16.3%]; Canada [5.6%] and the United Kingdom [3.9%].

 

January to March visitor arrivals 2015 showed a 7.4% increase over the corresponding period in 2014, up from 133,540 to 143,447.

A graphical comparison of visitor arrivals by country during the period January to March 2015 and 2014 is provided in Figure 2 below.  The twelve monthly comparisons is provided in Figure 3.
