PROVISIONAL VISITOR ARRIVALS - April 2015

Provisional numbers show that visitor arrivals for April 2015 totaled 59,049 an increase of 7.6% compared to a year earlier. 

 

There were increases in the number of visitors from the following countries; Australia [1,429 or 5.0% to 30,077]; China [913 or 49.1% to 2,773]; Pacific Islands [764 or 26.1% to 3,691]; New Zealand [421 or 4.5% to 9,721]; Rest of Asia [271 or 29.8% to 1,180]; the United States of America [265 or 5.5% to 5,092]; Japan [211 or 75.1% to 492]; Other Countries [190 or 71.7% to 455] and South Korea [74 or 18.5% to 474].

 

However, decreases were recorded in the number of visitors from Continental Europe [down 193 or 6.5% to 2,761]; Canada [down 112 or 10.7% to 939] and the United Kingdom [down 72 or 4.9% to 1,394].

 

Visitors arriving for holiday purposes accounted for 78.2% of total arrivals, 6.9% came to visit their friends or relatives, 3.3% came for business purposes, while 11.6% visited Fiji for other reasons.

 

Table 1 below presents actual numbers and the 2015 and 2014 comparisons of visitor arrivals for the month of April, January to April and 12 months to April 2015.

Note: Visitor statistics are released monthly using data sourced from the Immigration System.  The number of tables released is currently due to limitations in the new system which came on line in April 2013. 

 

Figure 1 below is a graphical comparison of Visitor Arrivals by Country for April 2015 and 2014.

In the moving twelve monthly numbers ending April 2015, the total number of visitors to Fiji increased by 6.2% compared with the same period in 2014. Visitors from South Korea increased by 48.7%; China [28.3%]; Rest of Asia [27.4%]; the United States of America [15.0%]; New Zealand [14.0%]; Pacific Islands [7.3%]; Continental Europe [2.5%] and Australia [1.5%].

 

Decreases were recorded for visitors from Japan [11.2%]; Other Countries [9.2%]; Canada [7.0%] and the United Kingdom [4.3%].

 

January to April visitor arrivals in 2015 showed a 7.5% increase over the corresponding period in 2014, up from 188,428 to 202,496.

A graphical comparison of visitor arrivals by country during the period January to April 2015 and 2014 is provided in Figure 2 below.  The twelve monthly comparisons is provided in Figure 3.
