DEFERMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND UNEMPLOYMENT
SURVEY (EUS) - 2020 - 2021

The Fiji Bureau of Statistics wishes to advise the applicants for the Project vacancies of the Employment and Unemployment Survey (EUS) scheduled to run from August 2020 - August 2021, that the survey has been deferred to start from August 2021 - August 2022 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic that is currently facing our nation.
As such, the recruitment process for all EUS project vacancies advertised on 22nd February 2020 on the Fiji Sun is now cancelled until further notice.
Any inconvenience caused is regretted.

The final count of 2007 Census of Population stood as follows:

  • Total Fiji - 837,271
  • iTaukei - 475,739
  • Indo Fijians - 313,798
  • Others - 47,734

International Merchandise Trade Statistics - July 2020fbosicon2

Provisional data for  July 2020  was :

  • total imports $264.8 million
  • total exports $154.5 million

The July 2020 trade deficit amounted to $110.4 million compared to $200.2 million a month earlier (June).

Provisional Visitor Arrivals - July 2020fbosicon2

Provisional numbers show that visitor arrivals for July 2020 totaled 711. In comparison, in 2019, visitor arrival numbers for July stood at 96,376. Similar to the June 2020 numbers, this decrease is attributed to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions on international travel.

Of the 711 visitors, 56 came by air while 655 came by sea. The sea visitor arrivals were mostly seamen on fishing vessels.

Consumer Price Index - August 2020fbosicon2

The All Items CPI for the month of August registered a decrease of 0.9 over July 2020 [112.6] and stands at 111.6

Details of price changes between July 2020 and August 2020 by expenditure class are as follows:

  • FOOD AND NON ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES:-1.2%
  • ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, TOBACCO AND NARCOTICS:-3.0%
  • HOUSING, WATER, ELECTRICITY, GAS AND OTHER FUELS:-0.2%
  • TRANSPORT:+1.2%

CONSTRUCTION SURVEY - March Quarter 2020fbosicon2

  • Total estimated value of work put-in-place was $152.7 million for the March quarter of 2020.
  • New building and capital repairs: 54.4 %
  • Current Repairs and Maintenance: 9.0 %
  • Civil Engineering Works: 36.6%
