NOTICE
In light of the recent World Bank statement issued and additional information provided to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics, the poverty estimates have been revised. To ensure Fiji’s Survey remains in-line with international practices, the department will be releasing the corrections on its website in due course.
A cross-check review exercise for the Fiji 2019-2020 Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) by the World Bank’s Poverty & Equity Global Practice Team has resulted in household consumption figures being revised for most Fijian households.

DEFERMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND UNEMPLOYMENT
SURVEY (EUS) - 2020 - 2021
The Fiji Bureau of Statistics wishes to advise the applicants for the Project vacancies of the Employment and Unemployment Survey (EUS) scheduled to run from August 2020 - August 2021, that the survey has been deferred to start from August 2021 - August 2022 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic that is currently facing our nation.
As such, the recruitment process for all EUS project vacancies advertised on 22nd February 2020 on the Fiji Sun is now cancelled until further notice.
Any inconvenience caused is regretted.

International Merchandise Trade Statistics - April 2022
Provisional data for April 2022 was :
- total imports $459.1 million
- total exports $159.2 million

Provisional Visitor Arrivals - May 2022
Provisional numbers show that visitor arrivals for May 2022 totaled 47,813. In 2021 and 2020, visitor arrival numbers for the month of May stood at 400 and 709 respectively. These low visitor arrivals were a result of the worldwide COVID 19 pandemic. The pandemic continues to affect restrictions on international travel.

Consumer Price Index - May 2022
The Consumer Price Index [CPI] is compiled to indicate average changes in the prices of goods and services purchased by households nationwide with monthly price collections carried out in the urban areas [Suva, Lami, Nasinu, Nausori, Lautoka, Nadi, Ba and Labasa]. The index is currently taken to represent price changes in the rural areas as well. The CPI weights are derived from the Household Income and Expenditure Survey [HIES] of 2013/2014.
Details of price changes between April 2022 and May 2022 by expenditure class are as follows:
- FOOD AND NON ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES:-1.2%
- ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, TOBACCO AND NARCOTICS:-0.8%
- HOUSING, WATER, ELECTRICITY, GAS AND OTHER FUELS:+1.9%
- TRANSPORT: +14.7%

- Total estimated value of work put-in-place was $85.6 million for the December quarter of 2021.
- New Buildings and Capital Repairs accounted for 48.1 percent
- Current Repairs and Maintenance: 10.6 %
