DEFERMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND UNEMPLOYMENT
SURVEY (EUS) - 2020 - 2021

The Fiji Bureau of Statistics wishes to advise the applicants for the Project vacancies of the Employment and Unemployment Survey (EUS) scheduled to run from August 2020 - August 2021, that the survey has been deferred to start from August 2021 - August 2022 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic that is currently facing our nation.
As such, the recruitment process for all EUS project vacancies advertised on 22nd February 2020 on the Fiji Sun is now cancelled until further notice.
Any inconvenience caused is regretted.

International Merchandise Trade Statistics - June 2021fbosicon2

Provisional data for June 2021  was :

  • total imports $351.4 million
  • total exports $139.9 million

The June 2021 trade deficit amounted to $211.5 million compared to $321.2 million a month earlier (May).

Provisional Visitor Arrivals - August 2021fbosicon2

Provisional numbers show that visitor arrivals for August 2021 totaled 419, while in 2020, visitor arrival numbers for August stood at 976. As expected and similar to last year, the low visitor arrival numbers is attributed to the international travel restrictions which is still in place due to the COVID 19 pandemic. In comparison, in August 2019, visitor arrivals stood at 88,834 which means a 99.5% decrease to the current numbers.
Of the 419 visitors, 159 came by air while 260 came by sea. The sea arrivals were mostly seamen on fishing vessels (218) and 42 arrivals by yachts.

Consumer Price Index - August 2021fbosicon2

The All Items CPI for the month of August 2021 registered an increase of 0.4 percent over July 2021 [112.1] and stands at 112.5.

Details of price changes between July 2021 and August 2021 by expenditure class are as follows:

  • FOOD AND NON ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES:+0.4%
  • ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, TOBACCO AND NARCOTICS:+0.3%
  • HOUSING, WATER, ELECTRICITY, GAS AND OTHER FUELS:+0.9%
  • TRANSPORT: +0.8%

  • New building and capital repairs: 50.9 %
  • Current Repairs and Maintenance: 8.1 %
