Rebasing of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 2014 to 2019 Base Year
The Fiji Bureau of Statistics wishes to inform the public that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has been successfully rebased from the 2014 base year to 2019, in line with international best practices and to ensure that the CPI continues to accurately reflect current household spending patterns.
Why the rebase was necessary
Household consumption patterns change over time due to shifts in income, lifestyle, technology, and market conditions. To capture these changes, statistical agencies periodically update the CPI base year and expenditure weights. This is to ensure that the index remains relevant and reliable as a measure of price change and inflation.
