The Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS), with support from the Statistics for Development Division (SDD) of the Pacific Community (SPC), has made significant progress in developing and refining Fiji’s population grid. The grids are derived from the most recent 2017 Population and Housing Census data, estimated to the year 2025. The Fiji Population Grid 2025 represents a high-resolution map that divides a territory into small, equal-sized cells (100m x 100m) and shows the number of people living in each cell. This method provides a much more accurate picture of where people actually live than traditional statistics tied to large administrative boundaries

On that note, the Fiji Population Grid 2025 aligned with the United Nations World Population Prospects (UN WPP) to ensure consistency with internationally recognized demographic projections. The core difference between the 2023 and 2025 Fiji population grids is the marginal increase in the total projected population with the 2017 Census baseline. However, the spatial patterns of distribution remain structurally the same, with urban areas continuing to intensify their population density while rural and outer island areas remain sparsely populated.
The Population grids represent data using square “cells” which is produced by 100m x 100m (1 hectare)1.
