In May 2025, the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS), with support from the DATA for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) initiative (DATAS) initiative, hosted an inter-agency dialogue to strengthen cooperation, improve data sharing, and identify national data needs.

  • Formation of a National Technical Working Group (TWG)
  • Training programs proposed to build institutional capacity
  • Two priority areas identified in line with Fiji’s National Development Plan 2025–2029 & Vision 2050.

This marks a major step in strengthening data governance, ensuring decision-makers have access to timely, reliable data for evidence-based policymaking and sustainable development.

“For too long, our data systems have operated in silos. This initiative is the beginning of a more coordinated approach: one where government agencies speak the same data language and work toward shared goals”
-Kemueli Naiqama, CEO, Fiji Bureau of Statistics
