The environmental account for water provides a framework for the assessment of water production and use as well as related issues of the resource. This release shows data on the water supplied by the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) and alternative sources of water for households. The release at the moment does not include any estimate on the alternative sources of water for businesses.

Key Facts:

  • In year 2025, the Household, Commercial and Government consumption of water stood at 70,389 (80.5%), 12,104 (13.8%) and 4,976 (5.7%) megalitres respectively;
  • Total water extraction increased by 2.1% in 2025 compared to a year earlier. The total water extracted stood at 171,595 megalitres. Of the total water extracted, 89.9% was done by WAF and 10.1% was done by households;
  • Commercial and Government consumption of metered water declined by 8.3% and 1.7% respectively when compared to 2024, whereas, Household consumption increased by 8.5%;
  • Of the total surface water extracted by WAF in 2025, 49.3% was lost during distribution and 5.3% was lost in the purification process.
