Building Statistics shows the number and value of permits and completion certificates issued during a period. The information is compiled using data supplied by the City & Town Councils and Rural Local Authorities.

 

December Quarter

A: BUILDING PERMITS ISSUED

Key Facts  Decbuild17a

  • A total of 425 Building Permits for construction work valued at $116.7 million were issued in the December quarter of 2017.
  • When compared to the September quarter 2017, the number of Building Permits issued and the corresponding value of works increased by 3.2 percent and 68.9 percent respectively.
  • When compared to the December quarter 2016, the number of Building Permits issued and the corresponding value of works increased by 2.7 percent and 59.0 percent respectively.

The Breakdown by Division of the $116.7 million value associated with Building Permits issued, were as follows:

  • Central and Eastern Division accounted for 70.6 percent;
  • Western Division accounted for 26.2 percent; and
  • Northern Division accounted for 3.2 percent.

 

 

 

B: COMPLETION CERTIFICATES ISSUED

  • A total of 157 Completion Certificates with a value of $47.4 million were issued in the December quarter of 2017.
  • When compared to the September quarter of 2017, the number of Completion Certificates issued and the value of construction works associated with the Completion Certificate increased by 3.3 percent and 81.0 percent respectively.
  • When compared to December quarter 2016 the number of Completion Certificates and the value of construction works associated with the Completion Certificates increased by 6.8 percent and 92.0 percent respectively.

The Breakdown by Division of the $47.4 million value associated with the Completion Certificates issued were as follows:

  • Central and Eastern Division accounted for 59.5 percent;
  • Western Division accounted for 35.9 percent; and
  • Northern Division accounted for 4.6 percent.

BUILDING PERMITS ISSUED

  • Total number of Building Permits issued was 1,618 with a value of $353.2 million in 2017.
  • The number of Building Permits and the total value of construction works approved increased by 0.8 percent and 40.1 percent respectively when compared to 2016.

 

 

 

 

 

 

COMPLETION CERTIFICATES ISSUED

  • Total number of Completion Certificates issued was 588 with a value of $126.1 million in 2017.
  • The number of Completion Certificates issued and the value of construction works associated with the Completion Certificates increased by 5.9 percent and 52.6 percent respectively when compared to 2016.


 

 

 

 

 

 

Caution:

Users of Building Statistics should exercise caution in interpreting statistics relating to the Building Permits and the Completion Certificates issued for specific periods due to the time lag between the Building Permits issued and the Completion Certificates issued. Thus, proper care should be taken when using these figures.
