IpiJune17aKey Facts

  • The All Group Industrial Production Index(IPI)stood at 114.4 in the June quarter of 2017.This represented an
    increase of 7.6 percent when compared to the March quarter of 2017.

The major index movements were as follows:

  • Mining and Quarrying Index rose by 28.0 percent;
  • Meat & Meat Products Index rose by 4.4 percent;
  • Sugar Index rose by 100.5 percent;
  • Non Alcoholic Beverages and Cigarettes Index rose by 5.4 percent;
  • Wearing Apparel Index rose by 5.8 percent; and
  • Electricity Index fell by 2.1 percent.
  • The All Group Index registered a 4.7 percent increase when compared to the June quarter of 2016.

The All Group Index including sugar and excluding sugar recorded an increase when compared to the March quarter of 2017 and June quarter of 2016. Sugar production is seasonal, with crushing carried out in the latter half of the year. Given the significant weight for sugar in the index, an increase or decrease in its production volume is bound to have an impact on the overall index.
