FBoS Release No: 91, 2015
31st December 2015

The experimental Producer Price Index (Services) measures changes in the average prices received by domestic service producers for a selected range of services. The main uses of the Index are to provide: 1) deflators to estimate Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at Constant Prices. 2) a short term indicator of the business cycle.
The Fiji Standard Industrial Classification (FSIC) 2010 has been used for classifying industries and services.

At this moment, the PPI (Services) survey only covers land transportation services. The index is published to engage users in the ongoing development of the methodology. This release will be published henceforth on an experimental quarterly basis.

The 2011 Land transport index stood at 102.0 and increased to 108.1 (6.0%) in 2012 and 109.3 (1.1%) in 2013. The index was at 110.0 (0.6%) in 2014.

The movement in the producer prices of other passenger land transport are government regulated for bus, taxi and mini van services whereas, variations in the producer prices of freight transport by road is due to change in the fuel price and other operational costs.

The Land transport index stands at 110.0 for the September quarter of 2015, representing no change when compared to a year earlier and to June quarter of 2015.
