PRODUCER PRICE INDEX (SERVICES) - Land Transport September 2016

FBoS Release No: 90, 2016
29th December 2016

The experimental Producer Price Index (Services) measures changes in the average prices received by domestic service producers for a selected range of services. The main uses of the Index are:

  1. to remove effect of price changes in our Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimates at Constant Prices;
  2. to provide an indicator of business inflation; and
  3. an indicator of the business cycles.

The Fiji Standard Industrial Classification (FSIC) 2010 has been used for classifying industries and services.

At this moment, the PPI (Services) survey only covers land transportation services. The index is published to engage users in the ongoing development of the methodology.

September Quarter Highlights

The Land transport index stood at 110.3 for the September quarter of 2016, representing an increase of 0.3 percentage points when compared to a year earlier and no change when compared to the June quarter of 2016. The movement in the producer prices of freight transport by road when compared to a year earlier was due to an increase in operational costs.
