Fiji’s earnings from tourism for the March quarter of 2013 is provisionally estimated at $272.4 million.  This represents a $9.3 million or 3.3 per cent decrease over the March quarter of 2012 earnings of $281.7 million. The figures are graphically presented in Graph 1.


Australian visitors contributed $143.2 million or 52.6 per cent of the earnings from tourism with $28.9 million or 10.6 per cent attributed to New Zealand visitors.


Graph 2 compares the March quarter earnings from tourism in 2012 and 2013 for the major source markets. These countries accounted for 78.6 per cent of earnings in the March quarter of 2013, a decrease of 1.5 percent when compared to a year earlier. The changes in earnings recorded by country were as follows;

  • Australia decreased by $15.4 million (9.7%) to $143.2 million;
  • New Zealand decreased by $0.3 million (1.0%) to $28.9 million;
  • USA increased by $3.8 million (17.0%) to $26.1 million;
  • Continental Europe increased by $0.3 million (1.9%) to $15.9 million.


The main components of earnings from tourism for the year 2010 to 2013 are given in Tables 1 and 2.  Apart from the annual data, these tables also contain the quarterly aggregates.
