Findings from the Quarter 1, 2013 survey of Licensed Hotels, Resorts and Lodging Houses are presented in this release.

Compared to Quarter 1, 2013 

  •     The number of Rooms Available decreased by 2.0% (18,540).
  •     The number of Room sold decreased by 2.7% (9,992).
  •     The Room Occupancy Rate decreased by 0.3 percentage points to 40.5%.
  •     Both Beds Available and Beds sold decreased by 1.9% and 4.1% respectively.
  •     The Bed Occupancy Rate decreased by 0.8 percentage points to 36.8%.
  •    Takings from Accommodation, Sales of Food, Liquor, Telephone and Other Miscellaneous  Charges totaled $145.9 million, a decrease of 3.4%.
  •     Paid Employment in the Hotel Sector decreased by 5.9%.

  •     The 2008 Qtr 1 Room Occupancy Rate of 41.0% has been the highest for the past six years.
  •     The Room Occupancy Rate slightly decreased to 40.5% from 40.8% for the same period last year.
  •     The Room Occupancy Rate and Visitor arrival numbers show a similar trend with peaks recorded in     2008 and dips in 2009 followed by increasing numbers in the latter years.

  •     The Quarter 1, 2013 Room Occupancy Rates by Area show significant decreases in the Coral Coast and Mamanuca Group compared to Quarter 1, 2012.
  •     First Quarter Data in 2012 show that the Coral Coast recorded the highest Occupancy Rate compared to other Areas.
